Manoj Malhotra named dean for Lehigh’s College of Business

Lehigh University has named Indian American Manoj K Malhotra as the next dean of its College of Business effective July 1, 2024.

Malhotra will succeed Georgette Chapman Phillips, who will retire next month. The announcement comes following an extensive nationwide quest for the ideal candidate to steer the College into its next chapter of growth and innovation.

Malhotra served as the John R. Mannix Medical Mutual of Ohio professor of operations management and former dean of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. 

At Case Western Reserve University, Malhotra spearheaded initiatives that resulted in significant enrollment increases and the establishment of pioneering programs, including a healthcare-focused online MBA.

Provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs, Nathan Urban, expressed his confidence in Malhotra's ability to lead, stating, “Manoj is the ideal person to lead Lehigh’s College of Business in its efforts to become a national leader in business education and research with a focus on the intersection of business and technology.”

Cheryl Matherly, vice president and vice provost for International Affairs, said, “Manoj brings a depth and breadth of experience to support growth in the College of Business, and he will find a campus with people ready to collaborate.”

According to a statement by the university, Malhotra’s vision aligns seamlessly with the strategic goals of Lehigh Business, emphasizing lifelong learning, high-impact research, and community engagement.

Commenting on his appointment, Malhotra remarked, “I was attracted to the dean’s position at Lehigh Business because of its impressive growth trajectory in academic programs and faculty, its student-focused curriculum, and several centers of excellence in diverse functional areas of business.”
