Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘The Fable’ to premiere at Berlinale 2024

Indian movie ‘The Fable,’ starring Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee, is set to have its world premiere at the 74th annual Berlin International Film Festival scheduled to take place from February 15 to 21, 2024.
A US-India co-production the film is only the second Indian film in three decades to debut at the foreign film festival. ‘Shelter of the Wings’ directed by the late Buddhadeb Dasgupta was the latest Indian film to debut at the festival.
‘The Fable,’ directed by Raam Reddy who predominantly works in Kannada cinema, also stars Priyanka Bose, Deepak Dobriyal, Tillotama Shome, and Hiral Sidhu. It will feature at the festival in the competitive category of ‘Encounters.’
‘Encounters’ category at Berlin Film Festival
The category’s goal is to support new perspectives in cinema as well as endorse diverse narrative and documentary forms from independent filmmakers.
Encounters usually comprise 15 movies – world or international premiers of fiction or documentary films with a run time of at least 60 minutes. Selected films challenge traditional setups and ask viewers to reconsider their positions about them, according to the festival’s website.
‘The Fable’ went through ‘tests and trials’: Bajpayee
‘The Fable’ was planned many years ago and went through a lot of “tests and trials” while being made, according to Bajpayee, who plays a pivotal role in the film. The actor revealed that makers were forced to pause shooting a few days after they started due to the first COVID-19 lockdown.
With ‘The Fable’ competing at Berlinale, Bajpayee stated this is a “big start” for the movie and its crew is happy with how it has shaped up. “The quality of the film is validated by the Berlin Film Festival. It also means that from here the journey is going to be quite magnificent,” he added.
