Malai brings South Asian-inspired ice cream to D.C. with first store

With this, Malai will be the first ice cream shop in the District dedicated exclusively to South Asian flavors, the company said in a statement.

Malai, a Brooklyn-based ice cream company known for its unique South Asian-inspired flavors, is set to open its first store in Washington D.C. on Saturday, May.18 2024. 

With this, Malai will be the first ice cream shop in the District dedicated exclusively to South Asian flavors, the company said in a statement.

The new store will offer a delightful selection of 12 rotating scoopable flavors and two soft serve options. Customers can also buy pre-packaged pints and a variety of frozen desserts, including Kulfi Pops.

The D.C. shop will be open from noon to 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and noon to 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. To commemorate their arrival in D.C., Malai has created a special "Cherry Black Cardamom" flavor.

Malai meaning “cream” was founded in 2015 by Indian American Pooja Bavishi. The brand, inspired by her childhood experiences brings the Taste of India through its spice forward flavors such as…Masala Chai, Orange Fennel, Star Anise etc.
