The fixtures for the second season of Major League Cricket have been announced, with defending champions MI New York facing 2023 finalists Seattle Orcas in the opening game on July.5.
Later on the same day, the Texas Super Kings will play the LA Knight Riders at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, where most of the matches will be held, along with North Carolina.
In the league phase, six teams will play in a 20-20 format against each other, following which the top four teams will progress to Indian Premier League-styled playoffs, that feature qualifiers and eliminator matches.
The teams finishing in the top two during the league phase have a chance to either reach the final in the first attempt (Qualifer 1) or play the winner of the third and fourth-placed teams' eliminator matchup in Qualifier 2.
Four of the six teams in the MLC are owned by franchises from the IPL. The MI New York team is owned by Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings have a controlling stake in the Texas Super Kings franchise, LA Knight Riders are owned by Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals own the Seattle Orcas. Washington Freedom and the San Francisco Unicorns comprise the other two teams.
Many top cricketers from around the world will also be featuring in the competition including the likes of former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard (MI New York), South Africa's Faf du Plessis (Texas Super Kings), IPL star Sunil Narine (LA Knight Riders, along with Australians Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Travis Head (Washington Freedom).
The MLC 2024 final will be held on July.29 in Texas.
