Krystle Kaul becomes sole Sikh candidate running for U.S. Congress
If elected, she will use the opportunity speak up against Sikh discrimination, targets against gurdwaras and transnational repression against Sikh Americans, Kaul said.

Krystle Kaul, a Democrat running for the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia’s 10th congressional district, is the only remaining Sikh candidate in the country running for Congress.
This comes after Hoboken Mayor, Ravinder Bhalla, another Sikh candidate, lost his congressional bid to incumbent Rob Menendez in New Jersey’s 8th District.
"I’m a small business owner, and a National Security expert - but before anything else, I’m a proud Punjabi Sikh woman. We need to elect more leaders from diverse backgrounds and I know voters in Virginia agree as this is a 44 percent minority and 16 percent Asian American district,” Kaul said in a statement.
In a nod to her Sikh background, Kaul added, “I was inspired to enter public service at a young age because of the Sikh notion of ‘Oneness’ I grew up with in a strong Sikh community.”
If elected, Kaul will create history as the only Sikh member of Congress. Kaul said she will leverage her position to speak up against Sikh discrimination, targets against gurdwaras and transnational repression against Sikh Americans.
The Loudoun-based small business owner, educator and former Director at the Department of Defense has seen fundraising success in her district, allowing her campaign to reach voters ahead of the upcoming democratic primary election scheduled for June 18.
