Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure, MB Patil, has advised Christopher W. Hodges, the United States Consulate General in Chennai, to contemplate the establishment of a diplomatic presence in Whitefield, East Bengaluru.

Regarding the Consulate General office in Whitefield, a tech hotspot, Patil extended an invitation to Hodges for a meeting on November 28. “In a meeting with US Consul General in Chennai Christopher W. Hodges, I urged establishing a US Consulate office in Whitefield, Bengaluru. I stressed the strategic importance of this move to bolster Indo-US relations,” Patil said on his social media platform, X, formerly Twitter.

Patil also provided an update to the US Consulate General regarding the development of Knowledge, Healthcare, Innovation, and Research (KHIR) City, which is slated to be constructed beyond the confines of the city.

The objective of the project is to attract global expertise, enhance Bengaluru's reputation as a hub for medical tourism, and create employment opportunities for locals. It is expected that the plan for the approximately 2,000-acre KHIR City will be finalized within the following two to three months.

Roadshows for KHIR City are in the works for the United States and the United Arab Emirates, Patil stated. Other sectors that the minister enumerated were biotechnology, aerospace and defense, machine tools, semiconductors, and machine tools.

Patil prioritized the integration of Karnataka's forte in design and IT into the manufacturing sector with the intention of leveraging these domains. His focus was on the robust connectivity that Tier-II and Tier-III cities possess, which renders them well-suited for the establishment of new enterprises.

Hodges conveyed enthusiasm regarding the possibility of American corporations making investments in the Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities of Karnataka. He declared that a trade delegation from the United States would be visiting Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in February to research the possibility of facilitating the establishment of American corporations' enterprises, primarily in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

The United States Embassy in New Delhi is one of the largest foreign embassies, working in tandem with its counterparts in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Delhi.
