Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, during his visit to Moscow recently. According to a news release, Jaishankar conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and presented a personal message to the Russian President.
The Indian Minister also provided President Putin with a comprehensive overview of his discussions with Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Moreover, he expressed appreciation for Putin's guidance on the development of India-Russia ties.
Before his meeting with Putin, Jaishankar engaged in a meeting with Lavrov. They delved into various aspects of the relations between India and Russia. As strategic partners, the primary focus of their discussions was the Indo-Pacific, the Ukraine conflict, the Gaza situation, Afghanistan, Central Asia, as well as engagements in BRICS, SCO, G20, and the UN, a release stated.
A Protocol on Consultations for the period 2024-28 was signed during the meeting. This protocol reaffirms the mutual goal of making progress in economic cooperation, energy trade, connectivity, military-technical cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

During his visit, Jaishankar also took the opportunity to interact with the Indian community in Moscow. During this engagement, he expressed appreciation for their contributions to building a collaboration between India and Russia and highlighted the invaluable role of the community in promoting close ties between both nations.
Reflecting on the meeting with the diaspora, Jaishankar wrote on X, “The Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership reflects experiences and sentiments of last 75 years. Urged the community to contribute to deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation. Their role in promoting close ties between our civil societies is invaluable. An #AtmanirbharBharat will deepen ties with Russia in a multipolar world.”
