The Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA) has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend its upcoming convention in Chicago. The invitation was presented by Atul Shah, JAINA First Vice President and Convention Convener, who highlighted the event’s significance and benefits.
On Feb. 26, a JAINA delegation from the USA met PM Modi in New Delhi to discuss key initiatives. Hiteshbhai Doshi from Mumbai also joined the delegation for this important meeting.
During the meeting, Sharad N. Doshi, chairperson for governmental and public affairs at JAINA, highlighted the economic contributions of Jain entrepreneurs and the potential for expanding US-India trade opportunities. He emphasized how the entrepreneurial strength of the Jain diaspora can drive deeper trade, investment, and business partnerships between the two nations.
Additionally, Sharad Doshi updated PM Modi on the construction of a new Jain temple in Washington, D.C., which will host its Pratishta Mahotsav in May 2025. The Prime Minister expressed interest in visiting the temple during his future travels.
JAINA President Bindesh Shah spoke about the organization’s core values and vision, emphasizing its non-sectarian approach, unity, and commitment to various community initiatives. He highlighted JAINA’s ongoing efforts to connect and engage the global Jain diaspora, promoting unity among Jain communities worldwide.
During the discussion with PM Modi, the delegation shared JAINA’s work in social welfare, education, cultural preservation, youth engagement, and interfaith dialogue. A key focus was the preservation and upkeep of Jain Tirths, particularly efforts to green and clean sacred sites. The delegation also outlined plans to showcase these initiatives in the coming months.
This meeting was made possible by Doshi and the Indian Embassy team, who played a key role in facilitating the dialogue with the Indian government.
This engagement marks a milestone in strengthening ties, fostering mutual respect, collaboration, and a shared commitment to societal well-being. JAINA remains dedicated to building a strong, united, and non-sectarian Jain community, upholding the vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world as one family).
