Sunrisers Hyderabad scripted a historic victory in their first home match of the IPL 2024 season, setting a monumental record by posting 277/3 against the Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The score is the highest ever total in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

Despite Mumbai's spirited effort, chasing a daunting target of 278, they fell short by 31 runs, managing 246/5 in their 20 overs—the highest second innings score in IPL history.

Sunrisers' batting onslaught was led by Travis Head, who blazed to a record-breaking half-century in just 18 deliveries. His aggressive approach laid the groundwork for Sunrisers' formidable total. Abhishek Sharma complemented Head's performance with a rapid 16-ball 50, further bolstering the team's innings.

Sunrisers' dominance continued with Heinrich Klaasen's explosive innings, guiding the team to an imposing total. Klaasen's relentless attack, coupled with Aiden Markram's composed contribution, propelled the team to their record-breaking score.

Mumbai's bowling strategy faced scrutiny as they struggled to contain Sunrisers' batting firepower. Despite  Jasprit Bumrah”s economical spell, Mumbai's bowlers failed to stem the flow of runs effectively. In the second innings, their chase began promisingly, with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan maintaining a rapid scoring rate of nearly 17 runs per over. However, despite their strong start, the loss of key wickets and the mounting required run rate hindered their progress.

Sunrisers' bowlers, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jaidev Unadkat, applied consistent pressure, restricting boundaries during crucial phases of the innings. With a total of 38 sixes, a record for the Most sixes in a men's T20 match and Most sixes in an IPL game was also set during the match in Hyderabad.
