In order to promote its mission and expand its membership base, the Indian Overseas Congress, USA, plans to host four large-scale events in the cities of Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and New Jersey.
These events will be held ahead of the elections in Mizoram, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as well as the general Lok Sabha elections in India, an official statement noted.
“In the next few months, IOCUSA considers it essential to reach out to the Diaspora to garner their support for democracy, freedom, and equal justice back home as India is increasingly facing religious polarizations and unrest…,” the organization said urging Indian Americans concerned about the current state of affairs to attend the meetings.
Mizoram, the smallest poll-bound state in India, with only 40 seats, will vote on November 7th, as per the dates announced by the Election Commission of India. Chhattisgarh's two-part election, for its 90-seat assembly, will take place on November 7 and 17. Voters in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana will cast ballots on November 17, 23, and 30, respectively. The votes will be counted on 3 December.
The elections in these states are significant because they will be the last assembly elections before the general elections in 2024, according to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
