An Indian-origin mother from North Carolina, was charged with the murder of her 10-year-old son who was starved to death. According to a report by local news website WRAL the kid's body was found in an advanced decomposed state.

Priyanka Tiwari ( 33) faces charges of first-degree murder and negligent child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. The incident came to light when the Morrisville Police Department received a distress call on December 20, 2023, from Tiwari's residence on Craigmeade Drive. Tiwari herself had made the call, reporting an unresponsive boy.

According to the police warrants mentioned in the news report, the mother had allegedly been starving the boy. He had lost an enormous amount of weight before his death. Reports also suggest that the police believe abuse and neglect were contributing factors to the death while the official cause of death remains unknown.  “Without the autopsy, we don’t know how the child passed away," the police chief was quoted as saying.

The police mentioned that the officers have been to Tiwari's residence in March 2023 while she was experiencing a mental health crisis. On March 30, 2023, Tiwari’s husband asked police to follow him into the house so he could collect his belongings. Morrisville Police Chief Pete Acosta was quoted saying in WRAL.News report, “He was leaving, leaving the home, and so we followed him over there. He went and got several bags and left there was no issues.”

Acording to the arrest warrant, "Tiwari, unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did of malice aforethought kill and murder (her son)." She was taken into police custody on December 21, 2023. During a court hearing, a judge ordered the accused to be held without bail. She is scheduled to appear again on January 11.
