The India Meteorological Department forecasts a persistent heat wave lasting over five days across East India, with a possibility of its extension into other regions beginning on Apr. 24.
Warnings have been issued for heat waves, warm nights, and hot and humid weather conditions across Gangetic West Bengal, with its conditions affecting interior Karnataka, Odisha, eastern and western Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
Additionally, hot and humid weather is forecasted for various regions, including Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Kerala, Mahe, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha on specific dates.
Over the next two days, northwest India is forecasted to undergo minimal changes in maximum temperatures, followed by a gradual increase of 2-4 degrees Celsius thereafter. Similarly, Gujarat is expected to experience no significant changes in maximum temperatures for the next three days.
On Apr. 21, Bengaluru experienced a temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, marking the second-highest recorded temperature for the year. 2024 appears to be surpassing even the temperatures seen in 2016.
Global weather experts have officially declared the end of the Super El Niño, paving the way for the La Niña phase, which is expected to bring increased rainfall. However, an update from Skymet indicates that the La Niña phase alone may not ensure precipitation.
