A 13-year-old yoga prodigy of Indian descent from southeast England has secured a gold medal at the European Yoga Sports Championship in Sweden. Inspired by his father, Ishwar Sharma, started his yoga journey at the age of three.
Since then, Sharma has won multiple World Yoga Championships, including most recently the Europe Cup 2023 in the boys 12-14 year old category. The European competition was organized by the International Yoga Sports Federation in collaboration with the Swedish Yoga Sports Federation in Malmo.
Sharma, who conducted daily yoga classes for 40 children spanning 14 countries during the lockdown induced by the pandemic, was recognized by the Points of Light award from the then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
“You have brought the joy of Yoga to hundreds of children globally during lockdown. I was particularly inspired to hear how you have helped children with special needs enjoy the activity you enjoy and excel at,” Johnson said in a personal letter to Sharma at the time in June 2021.
Sharma has achieved five world championships and was honored with the British Citizen Youth Award at the House of Lords for his noteworthy contribution to yoga. Collaborating with his father, Vishwanath, Ishwar actively operates IYoga Solutions, aiming to promote awareness about yoga and its numerous benefits in the UK.
