An Indian-origin student residing in New Jersey was arrested and charged for shooting his grandparents and uncle in their South Plainfield residence.
23-year-old Om Brahmbhatt has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
“Om Brahmbhatt, 23, of South Plainfield, resided with the victims and was found at the residence when authorities arrived at the scene," Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office said.
According to the police reports, officials found Om’s grandparents Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt (72), Bindu Brahmbhatt (72) deceased at the site of the murder while his maternal uncle Yashkumar Brahmbhatt (38) succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
The rationale behind the murder according to various media reports state that the family had moved to U.S from Gujarat, on the insistence of Om’s grandfather Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt. Om is currently held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
