Krishna Kunapuli, a 39-year-old man of Indian origin, pleaded guilty last week to charges of lewd and indecent behavior on an international flight. Kunapuli was sentenced on Oct.24 by U.S Magistrate Judge David H. Hennessy to two years of probation and a $5,000 fine. Additionally, he was ordered to delete photographs he had taken of a female passenger without permission and was prohibited from contacting her.
Kunapuli was arrested after displaying inappropriate behavior on a flight from Abu Dhabi to Boston. According to court documents, he made unwelcome advances toward a female passenger, including touching her hair and taking photos without her consent. When a flight attendant intervened, Kunapuli ceased his advances and returned to his seat.
However, later in the flight, two male passengers seated nearby noticed Kunapuli masturbating under a blanket, with his genitalia occasionally exposed. One of the passengers reported the behavior to a flight attendant, who then alerted law enforcement.
"Such conduct will be prosecuted to the fullest extent," said Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy. The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Elianna J. Nuzum of the Major Crimes Unit, with involvement from the FBI and the Massachusetts State Police.
