A 48-year-old Indian-origin man has been charged with three counts of attempted murder following the stabbing of a woman and two children in east London last week. Kulvinder Ram, a resident of Dagenham, appeared before Barkingside Magistrate's Court on Oct.28 in connection with the incident that took place on First Avenue, Dagenham.

According to the Metropolitan Police, Ram was arrested on Oct.25, after officers responded to reports of a stabbing. “A woman aged in her 30s, an eight-year-old girl, and a two-year-old boy, were all found suffering stab injuries,” a police statement confirmed. Police added that the victims’ injuries were not life-threatening.

While the police release did not specify Ram’s relationship to the victims, it did state that the parties involved were known to each other but withheld further details.

As reported by The Independent, police arrived on the scene in response to an emergency call at 5:35 p.m. on Oct.25. The woman and two children, all injured, were transported to a nearby hospital for medical care. Ram, who was also taken to the hospital for assessment, was later discharged directly into police custody.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, responsible for overseeing the area’s policing, condemned the attack as “truly shocking” and expressed gratitude to residents for their “assistance and patience” during the ongoing investigation.

“A crime scene will remain in place for some time while our officers carry out vital work and there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days,” Basford added, urging the public to contact officers with any information that could assist in the investigation.
