An Indian-origin engineer at Meta has alleged that posts critical of the U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris are automatically demoted on the company's social media platforms, which include Instagram and Facebook.

Jeevan Gyawali, a senior engineer at Meta, made the claim in an undercover video released by the O'Keefe Media Group, sparking widespread discussion online.

In the footage, Gyawali asserts that Meta employs algorithms to demote content critical of Harris without notifying users. “Say your uncle in Ohio said something about Kamala Harris being unfit to be president because she doesn't have a child—that kind of s**t is automatically demoted,” Gyawali explained.

Gyawali further revealed that Meta’s “Integrity Team” is responsible for managing the content using a system of “civic classifiers,” which shadowban politically charged posts. According to him, posts containing misinformation are “100 percent demoted.”

In another startling claim, he mentioned that Meta has established a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to monitor potential abuses of the platform. When asked if Meta can influence elections, Gyawali responded affirmatively, saying, “Yes,” and confirmed that Meta’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, supports the platform’s political influence “100 percent.”

He noted that users sharing such content experience reduced engagement and impressions without receiving any direct notification. The video, which has since gone viral, was shared by author James O'Keefe, with even Elon Musk weighing in with a tweet saying “Hmm.”
