Defending Champions India suffered defeat at the hands of their Australian opponents at the finals of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Benoni, South Africa on Sunday.
The young Australians won by 79 runs to claim their fourth ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup crown and their first since 2010 when Mitch Marsh captained the team.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Australian side got off to a flying start to put up a staggering total of 253 runs—the highest score ever in the history of the U-19 World Cup. A remarkable Harjas Singh, whose parents migrated to Australia from Punjab, India, was the lead scorer on the Australian side.
Singh scored 55 runs off 64 deliveries while his teammates Harry Dixon (42), Hugh Weibgen (48), and Oliver Peake (46*) contributed to the team’s mammoth total. Singh, who had scored just over 49 runs in the tournament thus far, displayed his prowess in the final game scoring a couple of boundaries against Indian spin.

Recap, highlights from Australia's fourth men's U19 World Cup win
The Indians were not exceptional with the ball or bat. Top scorers Uday Saharan and Sachin Dhas too fell in quick succession while bowlers couldn’t control the middle phase after a decent start and the spinners failed to make much of an impact. Raj Limbani was the first to strike from an Indian bowling outfit and was joined by Naman Tiwari however the latter proved to be pretty expensive.
For the third time in the past eight months, Australia have defeated India in the final of an ICC men’s event. Australia previously beat India at the ICC World Test Championship 2023 final at the Oval and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 summit clash at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
