Indian-origin candidate for Fort Bend County Commissioner Taral Patel arrested for online impersonation

Indian-origin Taral Patel, a Fort Bend County Commissioner candidate, has been arrested on charges including a third-degree felony charge of online impersonation and a misdemeanor charge of misrepresentation of identity, Houston Public Media reported.
The investigation into the case is being led by the Fort Bend District Attorney's Public Integrity Division and the Texas Rangers. However, the district attorney's office has not provided any further details regarding the nature of the charges.
Patel was booked into the jail on June.12 with a $20,000 bond set for the felony charge and a $2,500 bond for the misdemeanor charge.
In March, Patel won the Democratic primary for the seat. He is scheduled to run against the incumbent Republican, Andy Meyers, in November.
Patel, who previously served as the chief of staff for KP George, had received an endorsement from George.
George released a statement regarding the arrest on June.13, though he did not directly name Patel, Houston Public Media reported.
“As a public official, I address the recent events involving a former employee with a deep sense of concern," George was quoted as saying by Houston Public Media. "Recognizing the gravity of the situation, I emphasize the vital importance of upholding the principles of due process and impartial investigation.”
"I trust that this matter will be examined without prejudice. White awaiting additional information, I reaffirm my commitment to ensuring justice and accountability. I look forward to gaining a complete understanding of the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident,” he added.
