Indian Men's hockey team ends 5 nation Valencia 2023 tournament with single win

Indian hockey team sees a win after three straight losses

The Indian Men's Hockey Team secured a 5-4 victory over France, concluding their 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023 campaign. Jugraj Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, and Vivek Sagar Prasad were the goal scorers for India in what was their only win of the tournament.

Despite a challenging start with losses to Spain, Belgium, and Germany, the Indian team showed resilience and determination in the final match against France. Jugraj Singh and Harmanpreet Singh each scored a brace in the penalty corners, while Prasad added another goal. 

The match against world No. 9 France was tough. They took the lead in the first quarter through a penalty corner by Lucas Montecot. India quickly responded in the second quarter with Prasad’s goal, followed by the other two in penalty corners. The score was 3-2 in favor of India at halftime. The third quarter saw France equalizing the score in the final quarter. India, however, secured a 5-4 win.

The Indian hockey players were also nominated for the Indian national sports awards. The Arjuna Awards for outstanding performance in Sports and Games 2023 will be given to Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu in January 2024. 

The Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games 2023 will be given to Shivendra Singh under the regular category. Lastly, Vineet Kumar Sharma

Will receive the Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games.
