Indian Equestrian team clinches gold, sailors win silver at Asian Games 2023

India wins at Asian Games 2023 with gold in equestrian dressage and silver in sailing and more.

The Indian equestrian dressage team of Hriday Chheda, Anush Agarwalla, Divyakriti Singh and Sudipti Hajela secured the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. This win marked India's first gold in equestrian dressage at the Asian Games after 41 years.

The team's total score was calculated based on the best three performances, resulting in a total score of 209.205, to secure the gold medal. This marked India's third gold medal at the Asian Games. Before the equestrian dressage team's triumph, India had clinched gold in women's cricket and the men's 10m air rifle team events, with Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar and Divyansh Singh Panwar. 

The last three gold medals, three silver medals, and six bronze medals in equestrian events at the Asian Games were in the Delhi 1982 edition.

17-year-old Indian sailor Neha Thakur secured the silver medal in the girl's dinghy - ILCA4 event at the Games. Thakur, with a net score of 27, secured second place, marking India's first sailing medal and the nation's fourth silver overall in the 19th Asian Games.

After that, Indian sailor Eabad Ali secured the bronze medal in the men's windsurfer - RS:X event. Ali had a net score of 52, standing as his best performance in the category at Hangzhou. 

The Indian men's hockey team defeated Singapore with a 16-1 victory led by Captain Harmanpreet Singh's four penalty corner goals, while Mandeep Singh scored a hat-trick. They will next face Japan on September 28. India has a total of two gold medals, three silver medals, and six bronze medals as of now.
