Amid excitement for the  upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup set to be hosted jointly by the West Indies and the United States, the Indian Consulate in New York has released an animation drawing connections between baseball and cricket.

As the tournament will serve as the inaugural major world cricket championship to be hosted by the United States, the consulate’s video celebrates cricket’s expansion into the country. It also aims to create awareness about the sport, which is loved by billions of Indians and millions of the country’s diaspora around the world.

In the United States, cricket is rapidly gaining ground on baseball, which has historically been one of the most popular sports. With the introduction of Major League Cricket and the incorporation of the sport into the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, a new generation in the United States is picking up the bat and ball.

Team India kicks off its campaign at the newly built Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, facing Ireland (Jun.5), Pakistan (Jun.9), and the USA (Jun.12).
