Indian Americans featured on Career Mastered Diversity IMPACT 50 list

Two Indian American women have been named on the 2024 Women’s Leadership Diversity IMPACT 50 List by Career Mastered Magazine. The honorees will be recognized during the Career Mastered National Women’s History Leadership Summit’s 10th Anniversary celebration in May, in Detroit.

Dr Malvika Iyer and Priya Kumar are the only two Indian American women on the list which was drawn by the magazine’s advisory board, editors, and strategic partners from a group of women, nationwide. Each one of them was selected for the Diversity IMPACT 50 list based on their contributions to the advancement of diversity and inclusion in the year 2023. Every woman on the list embodies the 2024 theme for the list – ‘I AM RESILIENT.’

Dr Malvika Iyer is an award-winning disability rights activist, recognized under the Diversity Leadership Award honoree list. She survived an accidental grenade blast at age 13 after which needed to have both hands amputated. Iyer turned adversity into an opportunity to lift others up. She now has a doctorate in social work and has received several awards for her pioneering work.

Iyer has been interviewed by media outlets across the world, she has been invited to give keynote speeches and TED talks across the world. Through her work and speeches, Iyer has raised awareness on global issues such as inclusion, gender equality, mental health, child rights, universal design, and accessibility in educational institutions, private corporations, NGOs, and youth forums around the world, as mentioned on her website.

The list of awards bestowed upon her is long and includes the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ which is the highest civilian honor for women for outstanding contributions to women’s empowerment, given to her at India’s Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2018.

Priya Kumar is a financial coach who was recognized in the Emerging Diversity Leadership honorees category. Her mission is to coach women on how to build a relationship with their money, heal financial trauma, and understand finances by breaking it into bite-size digestible pieces.

Kumar has devised a financial literacy program for nonprofit organizations that serve survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and sex trafficking to help them rebuild their lives. She draws from her experience as a survivor while helping to empower women like herself. She also works with entrepreneurs to help them achieve clarity on how money moves throughout their organizations and helps them strategically increase their profit through her initiative called Pivot My Profit.
