Indian American physician and entrepreneur, Rajesh Mohan, won the Republican primary for New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District.

According to the New York Times, Mohan received 11,96 votes accounting for 38.7 percent while his closest competitor, Shirley Maia-Cusick received 9,38 votes accounting for 30.3 percent.

With the victory, Mohan created history as the first Indian-American as well as the first physician to have won the Republican nomination from New Jersey for US Congress. He will now face a socialist Democrat Herb Conaway, in the upcoming November election to fill Rep. Andy Kim’s seat as the latter runs for the U.S. Senate.

"I am honored and grateful for the support I have received from the residents of NJ’s 3rd Congressional District. I am determined to bring solutions to our nation's critical issues, “ Mohan said in a statement reacting to his win.

The Holmdel physician reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his campaign priorities, which include securing the borders and stopping illegal immigration, making healthcare patient-centered and decreasing its costs, protecting Social Security and Medicare, cutting regulations to encourage businesses and keep jobs at home, and upholding American interests and national security.

"I believe in the profound strength of empathy and that the power of Good grows exponentially. I am more than ready for the big fights ahead for the good of the people. I invite all residents of Burlington, Monmouth and Mercer counties in NJ’s 3rd District to join us in the good fight, the big fight and help build a brighter future for our children and grandchildren," Mohan added.

Rep. Kim flipped the third district, which includes portions of Burlington, Mercer, and Monmouth Counties, from Republican to Democrat in 2018. Prior to the 2022 elections, it was found to be much more Democratic, hence Conaway starts out as the clear favorite, with Mohan looking to flip it again.
