The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is set to provide funding of over $26 million to Zūm, a pioneer in modern student transportation, as part of its inaugural Clean School Bus Program Grants Competition.

The financial support will play a crucial role in aiding Zum’s efforts to convert its fleet of school buses to 100% electric vehicles. The transition is made possible with the help of President Biden's Investing in America agenda.

The grant will also expedite the growth of Zum's cutting-edge AI-driven technology platform, which is a pivotal tool in the company’s broader mission to decarbonize the school bus industry and combat climate change.

Under the leadership of founder Ritu Narayan, a first-generation immigrant and mother, Zum is revolutionizing the traditional yellow school bus system. Numerous schools nationwide, including prominent districts such as Los Angeles Unified School District (country’s second-largest), San Francisco Unified School District, Seattle Public Schools, Howard County Public Schools, Oakland Unified School District, and Metro Nashville Public Schools, have partnered with Zum for their school transportation needs.

"We commend the Administration's tireless work to advance the acceleration of student transportation into a green era," said Zum founder and CEO Ritu Narayan. "At Zum, our goal is to ensure that all students have access to safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation, and this grant award will propel our electrification efforts in many of the districts that we serve. We are grateful and honored to be a part of this initiative."

Zum has revolutionized the antiquated student transportation sector, which has traditionally been characterized by inefficiencies and a lack of transparency. The company has adopted an innovative strategy centered around digitization and electrification.

Through its progressive approach, Zum has brought together parents, students, school administrators, and drivers onto a single, customized end-to-end technology platform. This integration has facilitated unprecedented levels of visibility and data-backed accountability, marking a new era characterized by enhanced safety, reliability, and sustainability for the school districts that have adopted Zum's services.
