Indian American engineer recognized at Global AI Summit

Desani was recognized for developing an innovative AI model for early Alzheimer's detection.

Indian American data engineer Nithin Reddy Desani, who specializes in AI and machine learning for healthcare, earned global recognition at the 2024 Global AI Summit, hosted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). 

Desani’s groundbreaking research, titled "Optimized Hybrid Deep Neural Networks for Efficient Alzheimer's Disease Classification," was honored for its significant impact on healthcare, particularly in the early detection of Alzheimer's disease.

The study, presented to a prestigious audience of AI and technology leaders, introduced a hybrid neural network model that integrates advanced optimization techniques such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Resquare Optimization Algorithms (ROA). 

Desani's model achieved an impressive accuracy rate of 97.75 percent, outperforming traditional diagnostic methods. This innovation promises earlier detection of Alzheimer's disease, potentially transforming patient outcomes.

As a senior member of IEEE, Desani's work underscores his contributions to AI and healthcare. His model leverages neuroimaging data from T1-weighted MRI and Florbetapir PET scans, offering a multi-modal approach for identifying subtle brain changes often missed by conventional diagnostics. The research's focus on scalability ensures that it can be deployed in clinical settings worldwide, benefiting millions of patients.

"This research demonstrates the transformative power of AI in healthcare. Our hybrid neural network model is not only more accurate than traditional diagnostic methods but also scalable and deployable in real-world clinical settings. Being awarded at the IEEE Global AI Summit is an incredible honor and a testament to the potential of AI to change lives," Desani said. 

Conducted in collaboration with experts such as Anandaganesh Balakrishnan, Preethi Palanisamy, and Saigurudatta Pamulaparthyvenkata, Desani's research represents a global effort to address critical healthcare challenges. 

Desani holds a Btech degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Delhi, and a Mtech degree from Rivier University, specialising in Computer engineering.
