India-US alliance key to global prosperity and preventing terrorism and climate change, says Sripriya Ranganathan

Indian diplomat Sripriya Ranganathan in her speech at the Advocacy Day event held at Capitol Hill on June.13 said that the collaboration between India and US, both through bilateral efforts and in larger international forums like the UN, plays a pivotal role in addressing common challenges such as terrorism, climate change, and economic development.
Ranganathan, the Indian Deputy Ambassador to the United States, was speaking at the event hosted by the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS). In her address, she emphasized the mutual commitment to global peace and stability.
Ranganathan also highlighted significant advancements in India's digital landscape and international relations. She emphasized India's pivotal role in global real-time payments, noting that approximately 46 percent of such transactions now originate from the country. This surge reflects a profound shift towards digital identity and payments, relegating cash transactions to a diminishing role in the economy.
During India's presidency of the G20 last year, there was an initiative to include the African Union as a member. “We also hosted the voice of the Global South Summit to ensure the developing countries around the world are able to make their voices heard and their concerns highlighted more in the world that we live in today,” she said.
Reflecting on current global dynamics marked by tensions and conflicts, Ranganathan highlighted the significantly improved India-US relationship as a positive development.
Echoing sentiments expressed by Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Ranganathan underlined a transformative shift in India-US relations.
“During his Washington DC visit, Mr Jaishankar said that at the time when he began working on the India-US relationship many, many decades ago, the focus was really on managing the relationship. And today, we have shifted the focus on what we can do together, what can we achieve by working together. So we've gone from being aware of each other to being aware of each other's strengths and complementarities and the value that we bring to the table just by working together,” she added.
Ranganathan’s speech also touched upon the shared values of democracy and adherence to a rules-based international order between India and the United States. This alignment, as Ranganathan pointed out, forms a robust foundation for collaborative efforts across diverse fields, resonating with the achievements of the Indian diaspora, renowned globally for their professionalism and leadership.
“At whatever field the Indian diaspora chooses to enter, we have found that they have excelled,” she said. “They have earned a reputation for professionalism, for excellence, for leadership, and we are hugely proud of our diaspora."
Concluding her remarks, Ranganathan invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's analogy of the India-US partnership as a beacon of hope and progress. He had said that "the India-US Partnership is like the sun in this new dawn that will spread light all around". She commended the efforts of organizations like the Foundation for India and the Indian Diaspora Studies for their role in reinforcing this alliance and expressed optimism for its future prospects.
