India, who are currently in second place, consolidated  their position on the World Test Championship (WTC) standing after winning by five wickets their 4th test against England in Ranchi.

Their point percentage increased from 59.52 to 64.58 thereby pulling away from Australia (55 percent) and Bangladesh (50 percent). England, on the other side, is lagging behind Sri Lanka, who haven't opened their account, in eighth place with 19.44 percent.

The fourth Test between India and England was a whirlwind affair, much like the majority of the series. On Day 1, debutant Akash Deep quickly put England to the sword before Joe Root, took charge with his 31st Test century, leading the team to 353.

After Shoaib Bashir's outstanding stint put India under pressure, Dhruv Jurel, playing in just his second Test, showed the maturity of a seasoned player by scoring a strong 90. By forming significant partnerships with the lower order, he helped India close the gap on England's first-inning total by 46 runs.

Given the pitch's strong bounce and spin, India assigned Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja the task of opening bowling. Ashwin matched Anil Kumble's record in the format for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian by taking early wickets and finishing with 35 wickets.

Kuldeep Yadav also performed admirably, scoring 145 runs to help England collapse and giving India a target of 192.

India scored 84/0 on Day 4 because of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal's strong start on Day 3. But the English spinners rallied, taking three wickets in ten overs, including the removal of the formidable openers.

With India still needing 72 runs to win, Shoaib Bashir further tipped the scales in favor of England after lunch by removing Sarfaraz Khan and Ravindra Jadeja in back-to-back deliveries.

The star of India's first innings, Jurel, showed incredible tenacity once more, collaborating with Gill to guide the hosts to victory with calculated play.

India began to approach the mark as the two established a 50-run partnership, and Gill hit two sixes in an over off Bashir to put the game beyond England. With his well-earned last runs, Jurel helped India win the series 3-1.

The two sides have been engaged in a heated battle throughout the current series, with England taking the lead after an uncommon triumph against India in Hyderabad. But the home team rallied well, winning convincingly in Vizag and Rajkot before clinching the series in Ranchi. The last Test is scheduled to take place in Dharamsala from March 7–11.
