Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said that India “played it smart” while balancing relations with Russia and the United States. She made the remarks during an interview on “Making Money with Charles Payne” on Fox Business, during which she discussed her economic strategy to deal with China.
According to the former UN Ambassador, the government in New Delhi wants to partner with the United States over Russia, but does not trust Washington “to lead.”
“I have got to say, I have dealt with India too. I have talked with Modi. India wants to be a partner with us. They don't want to be a partner with Russia. The problem is, India doesn't trust us to win. They don't trust us to lead. They see right now that we are weak,” Haley said.
While responding to a question about the imposition of sanctions on Russia to make sure no country can deal with them, Haley maintained that, “India has always played it smart. They have played it smart, and they have stayed close with Russia because that's where they get a lot of their military equipment.”
She maintained that only when the United States starts becoming more assertive will its allies truly side with them. “When we start to lead again, when we start to get the weakness out and stop putting our head in the sand, that's when our friends, India, Australia, New Zealand, all of them will – and Israel, Japan, South Korea – all of them want to do that,” she added.
Meanwhile, on her recent loss in Nevada, Haley dubbed it a “scam.”. 'Trump had it rigged from the very beginning, there are multiple press stories on that, “ she said adding that her campaign refused to pay $55,000 to the Nevada Republican Party to appear on the caucus ballot.
'We weren't worried about it, that's why we haven't talked about it,' she said. “Our focus is on South Carolina, going into Michigan, going into Super Tuesday, those are the places that we're worried about, we're not focused on Nevada, we never were,' Haley added.
