The Embassy of India in Japan in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) organized the India-Japan Skill Connect Conference at the Vivekananda Cultural Center Auditorium, Embassy of India in Tokyo. ​
Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT Rajeev​ Chandrasekhar virtually addressed the debut skill connect conference between the countries and emphasized the strong ties between the nations. He formally launched the “Skill Facilitation Cell” at the event attended by several Japanese dignitaries. Also, present at the event were 159 Japan-based consulting, IT, HR, and manufacturing companies.
CII brought a 25-member delegation from Sikkim. The Government of Sikkim is keen on providing ​jobs to youth in countries where there is demand, as per a Government press release.
​Two-panel discussions also took place at the event. They were focused on ‘Japan-India Skill Connect-bolstering bilateral collaboration’ and ‘Mobility Pathways- opportunity, challenges and way head’ respectively, as per an Indian Embassy in Tokyo press release. The panels discussed how to revitalize sectoral cooperation and the opportunities and challenges underlying them.
B​ack in 2021, the countries had signed an MoU to provide Indian workers in 14 categories including nursing and aviation, who meet skill requirements and pass the Japanese language tests to be eligible for employment on a contractual basis.​
