A bowling masterclass by team India got the better of arch-rivals Pakistan in the highly anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup clash at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Oct. 14. The Men in Blue restricted their opponents to a mere 191 runs and won the match by seven wickets.

The win extended India’s World Cup win record against Pakistan to 8-0 and was also their third  consecutive win in the ongoing tournament. The team won against Australia and Afghanistan in their previous encounters and currently stands at the top of the points table.

The Pakistani team's first innings got off to a flying start, with several early boundaries. However, Mohammad Siraj and Hardik Pandya struck in the eigth and 12th over respectively.

Despite the two wickets, Pakistan looked in fine shape as captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan built a steady partnership until the middle overs. Just as Azam reached a half-century, he was sent to the stands by Kuldeep Yadav. The Indian bowler then proceeded to claim two wickets in his next over, reducing Pakistan to 166/5.

Yadav’s efforts were complimented by the other bowlers who start picking up wickets in quick intervals to wreck the Pakistani middle order and tip the scales heavily in India’s favour. Pandya added another wicket, while Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja got two each to wrap up the first innings.

With India’s ace opener, Shubhman Gill back on the field, the chase was seemingly too easy for the Men in Blue. Captain Rohit Sharma and Gill packed back-to-back boundaries, giving a strong start to the innings. However, Gill’s wicket fell too soon courtesy of an impressive catch by Shadab Khan.

Virat Kohli the stepped in and stitched a partnership of over 50 runs with his skipper, before he was dismissed for 16. With Shreyas Iyer in next, the score stood at 79/2. He scored some boundaries as Sharma reached his half-century. Runs kept coming for India pushing the score to 150/2.

The game seemed to rest on the two when an inside edge caused the captain to depart after scoring an impressive 86 runs. KL Rahul and Iyer then proceeded to score the winning runs and seal the match for India.
