India and Montenegro convened the third round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) on Oct. 28 in Podgorica.
The Indian delegation was led by Arun Kumar Sahu, additional secretary, Central Europe Division, while the Montenegrin side was represented by H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Drljević, acting Director General for Bilateral Affairs.
The discussions covered bilateral political ties, trade, science and technology, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connections. Both nations also exchanged views on regional and global matters of shared interest, including cooperation in international forums.
Since Montenegro's independence, high-level interactions between the two nations have steadily grown. The first ministerial visit to India came in February 2011, when Finance Minister Milorad Katnic traveled to New Delhi.
In June 2022, India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, met with Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović at the GLOBSEC Forum in Bratislava. Their discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in investment, culture, tourism, and renewable energy.
The diplomatic framework between the two countries was formalized with the first Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Podgorica in July 2009, paving the way for ongoing dialogue and collaboration.
It was agreed to hold the next round of consultations in New Delhi.
