Independence Day: A global celebration

Indian embassies and consulates hosted Independence day celebrations uniting the Indian diaspora in honoring their heritage. This year's Independence Day theme, 'Viksit Bharat @ 2047,' emphasizes the government's commitment to transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.

United States of America

The United States of American witnessed vibrant celebrations in honour of India's 78th Independence Day. Amb. R. Ravindra, Chargé d'Affaires & DPR, raised the national flag at India's Permanent Mission in New York. The celebration was attended by members of the diaspora, Indians working at the UN, and the Mission family.

At India House, Ambassador Vinay Kwatra raised the tricolor. The celebrations included wide range of events from painting competitions to a special Bharatnatyam performance on Jayate Jayate Bharat Mata. Members of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India also took part in the event.



The celebrations in Seattle, organised by the India Cultural Association festival not only showcased the artistic talents of the youth but also fostered a sense of cultural pride and connection among the Indian diaspora.

United Kingdom

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at India House in London, with Indian nationals and Friends of India gathering to honor the occasion. High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami hoisted the Tiranga and delivered the President's address to the nation, underscoring the significance of the day. The event was enriched by a Bharatnatyam performance by Kanaka Srinivasan and her troupe, bringing the essence of Indian culture to life. Additionally, a soulful rendition of "Vande Mataram" and "Sare Jahan Se Acha" by flutist Gaurav added a poignant touch to the celebrations.



As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, members of the High Commission of India in London shared what the Tiranga means to them, inviting others to reflect and join the conversation.

Australia

India’s 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Australia, bringing together the Indian diaspora and officials from the High Commission. The celebrations began with the High Commissioner hoisting the National Flag.In Melbourne, the festivities were marked by active participation from the Indian community, who showcased their pride and cultural heritage through a variety of performances. The event featured energetic Dhol performances, patriotic songs, and dances, highlighting India's rich heritage and the unity in diversity that defines the nation. 





The events in Perth witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Indian diaspora and Friends of India. The ceremony commenced with the unfurling of the Indian national flag by the Consul General, followed by the reading of the President's address. Prominent Indian-origin Members of the Western Australian Parliament, Dr. Jags Krishnan and Yaz Mubarakai, shared their thoughts on the significance of freedom and the crucial role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening bilateral ties between India and Australia.

France

Ambassador Jawed Ashraf hoisted the national flag and read the President of India's address in the presence of the Indian diaspora and Friends of India in Paris. The ceremony highlighted the strong ties between India and France, with the Ambassador taking the opportunity to honor Indian volunteers contributing Paris Olympics.



French President Emmanuel Macron extended his congratulations to the Indian people, recalling the warm welcome he received during his visit to India in January. He expressed eagerness to continue working with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve the ambitious goals set for the India-France strategic partnership. The celebrations reflected the deep and growing bond between the two nations as they strive towards common objectives.

Saudi Arabia

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with immense enthusiasm at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, bringing together the Indian community in Saudi Arabia. Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan led the celebrations by unfurling the Tricolour and paying homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He also read out the President's address to the nation, marking the significance of the occasion.



The event was further enlivened by a series of cultural performances filled with patriotic fervor, presented by Indian students and other community members. The Embassy was adorned in the vibrant colors of the Tricolour, symbolizing the pride and unity of the Indian diaspora.
