Indian Institute of Technology alumnus and assistant professor of at the University of Colorado Boulder, Ankur Gupta, has been honored with the inaugural Johannes Lyklema Early Career Award in Electrokinetics.

This award, presented by the International Electrokinetics Society (IES), recognizes Gupta's contributions to the field, particularly his work on diffusiophoresis and charge transport in porous energy systems.

"I am honored to receive this award," Gupta said. "It is heartening to be recognized by the electrokinetics community. I would like to thank all the students and postdocs in the group for their hard work, which made this award possible, and extend my gratitude to the mentors and colleagues who nominated me for the award."

Gupta will receive the award on Sept.18 at the ELKIN meeting, 15th International Symposium on Electrokinetics (by IES) in Sevilla, Spain, where he will also give a lecture on his research findings based from the Laboratory of Interfaces, Flow, and Electrokinetics at CU Boulder.

Gupta holds a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and a Master's and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has also received several awards, including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers "35 Under 35" award and the NSF CAREER Award, both in 2023.

His research focuses on transport phenomena, soft matter, microhydrodynamics, electrokinetics, energy storage, desalination, and lab-on-a-chip technologies.

The award is named after Johannes Lyklema, a supporter of young scientists in the field of electrokinetics, which involves studying the movement of particles, ions, or fluids under electric fields or chemical gradients, and has important applications in energy storage, environmental technologies, and microfluidic devices.
