The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced the women's and men's Players of the Month for December. Indian star Deepti Sharma won her maiden ICC Women’s Player of the Month title.
After batting and bowling mastery in all three forms helped India defeat formidable opponents in England and Australia, Sharma earned the Women's Player of the Month accolade.
The all-around player had a quiet start to the month in the T20 Internationals against England before taking the spotlight in the first Test match in Mumbai.
She took five crucial wickets in the first innings and four in the second, to finish with match figures of nine for 39 and win Player of the Match.
In the next Test match victory over Australia, Sharma delivered top scores with a vital 78 runs in the middle order as India defeated Australia by eight wickets.
There were many more highlights for Sharma in the ensuing ODI matches against Australia, notably five for 38 in the second match as India narrowly lost.
Upon winning the title, Deepti Sharma said, “It’s an honor to be voted the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December. I feel very good about my game at the moment and I’m glad that reflected in my performances for India last month against strong opponents. I’ll continue to work hard so that I can have more moments like this in the future.”
“I’m grateful to have been chosen for this award and the fact that fans around the world also voted for me makes it extra special. I want to thank them and my teammates for helping me win this award.”
