IABC hosts Diwali spectacle at City Hall Chicago

Consul General Ghosh remarked that the Hindu festival of Diwali, like Yoga Day, has evolved into a worldwide phenomenon.

Earlier this week, Chicago City Hall played host to a grand Diwali celebration hosted by Mayor Brandon Johnson and Indian American Business Council (IABC). The ceremony commenced with the two national anthems of both countries, a devotional song, and a traditional lamp lighting. 

Prominent community leaders, including Consul General of India Somnath Ghosh, elected  officials and guests including Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Irvin, Alderwoman Shweta Baid, Alderman Deborah Silverstein , Alderman Walter Burnett , Alderman David Moore , Alderman Lamont Robinson , Alderman Pat Dowell, Aldermen Jason Irvin , Judge Sanjay Tailor, Judge Rena Vantine, Dr.Bharat Barai and Dr.Sreenivas Reddy graced the event. 

Speaking on the occasion, Ajeet Singh, president IABC welcomed everyone and thanked Mayor Brandon for celebrating Diwali with one Indian American Community. Mayor Johnson expressed his deep appreciation to the entire Indian-American community for their efforts in making Chicago a better place. In accordance with Diwali tradition, the Mayor also distributed sweets amongst the attendees.

Consul General Ghosh remarked that the Hindu festival of Diwali, like Yoga Day, has evolved into a worldwide phenomenon. Ghosh continued by saying that the Indian community and those of Indian descent fully support the City of Chicago and all other elected authorities in the greater Chicagoland area in their pursuit of peace, development, and prosperity. 

Dr. Barai extended his best wishes to Mayor Johnson and those in attendance, saying that Diwali reminds them of the joy they felt when Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya from exile.Dr. Reddy noted that these kinds of joyful gatherings serve as a reminder of the necessity of uniting against the mental health and violence problems that plague our modern world.

The dignitaries applauded the IABC for staging such a grand spectacle of Indian cultural heritage at City Hall, which symbolized the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. 

At the end of the ceremony, Keerthi Kumar Ravoori, the visionary leader of the IABC team delivered the vote of thanks, in which he thanked everyone who had played a part in making the event a huge success and outlined IABC's plans to continue working toward building a better and stronger community through hosting events of this caliber.
