‘I have many Indian aspects to myself’ says first Gen Z Indian-American running for Georgia Senate

Ramaswami has worked in the federal government and decided to run at the local and state level to make sure every voice in the community is represented.

Ashwin Ramaswami, 24, is the first Indian-American Gen Z candidate running for the Georgia State Senate. In a recent interview with New India Abroad (NIA), he spoke about his Indian ancestry, his political campaign, and the support coming from the Indian-American community. 

Ramaswami announced his candidacy for the Georgia State Senate in December 2023. The young Democrat candidate seeks to represent the 48th District, which includes parts of Johns Creek where he was born and brought up, Suwanee, Alpharetta, Cumming, Sugar Hill, and Buford. Republican Senator Shawn Still currently holds the seat and is running for re-election.
