Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport have featured in the list of top five global airports of 2023 for operational performance and punctuality.
Aviation analytics firm Cirium released its 2023 On-Time Performance (OTP) Review on Jan 3, naming the Hyderabad airport in the second position and Bengaluru airport in the third spot.
As per the report, the Hyderabad airport exhibited an impressive 84.42 percent on-time departures, operating a total of 168,426 flights, while Bengaluru's airport recorded 84.08 percent of on-time departures, operating 237,461 flights.
"An on-time flight is defined as a flight that arrives within 15 minutes of the scheduled gate arrival. For an airport, it is defined as departing within 15 minutes of its scheduled departure," the report read.
Atlanta, Georgia-headquartered Delta Air Lines has been honored with the Cirium Platinum Award for the third year running. It also topped the rankings of the most on-time airlines in North America, recording 84.72 percent on-time arrivals with a total of 1,635,486 flights.
Alaska Airlines was ranked second among the leading airlines in North America, with 82.25 percent on-time arrivals and a total of 404,925 flights. Other airlines featured in the list include American Airlines United Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
Cirium's chief operating officer (CEO) Jeremy Bowen remarked, “It is incredible to witness Delta Air Lines winning its third consecutive Platinum Award and topping the North American Category.”
“Other airline and airport winners steered through the year’s operational hurdles with exceptional performance. Their relentless pursuit of efficiency and punctuality is commendable as we venture into 2024, a year brimming with promise for the aviation sector.”
