HSBC celebrates Diwali in NYC office

Keyur Shah, co-founder of Leap to Shine, Indian Consulate General Dr. Varun Jeph, and NYC Deputy Commissioner Dilip Chauhan were present for the festivities

Diwali celebrations was hosted by HSBC CEO Michael Roberts in their New York City office. Leap to Shine, an ed-tech non-profit based in New Jersey took part in the celebrations.

The traditional lamp lighting ceremony took place in the presence of Keyur Shah, co-founder of Leap to Shine,  Michael Roberts, Indian Consulate General Dr. Varun Jeph, and NYC Deputy Commissioner Dilip Chauhan.

Speaking of the bond between HSBC and India, the Indian Consul General highlighted India’s bright future in the coming years. "The next 25 years are going to be Amritkal, and India is well positioned to be a world leader," he stated. 

HSBC  Nirth America CEO and chairman of the board Michael Roberts thanked Dr. Varun Jeph for emphasizing the strategic importance of India to HSBC. "India is an important country for us, a country that will continue to grow, and it represents the importance of India to the world," he said. 

Addressing the gathering, NYC Deputy Commissioner Dilip Chauhan expressed enthusiasm that Diwali will be a school holiday for New York City public schools, adding an extra layer of significance to the celebration. The evening included cultural dances led by Jaspreet Kaur.

Highlighting his organisation’s work, Shah said, "We are laser-focused on impact and can monitor children's education in a rural village in India right from New York City.” Leap to Shine is committed to providing digital education opportunities for underprivileged children in India and creating a brighter future through accessible education.
