Indian American Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley received a birdcage at her hotel room on October 1, delivered by her GOP opponent, former President Donald Trump’s campaign.
“After a day of campaigning, this is the message waiting for me outside my hotel room… #PrettyPatheticTryAgain #YouJustMadeMyCaseForMe” Haley wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, alongside a photo of the birdcage and birdfeed that came with a sign that said, “From Trump Campaign.”
The delivery came on the heels of Trump’s recent virtual attack against her in a Truth Social post where he described Haley as a “birdbrain.” Trump is a frontrunner in the Republican party for the upcoming presidential election, in the majority of polls and Haley is considered a close second after him, as per a New Hampshire poll while a CNN poll from early September found her to be the only candidate with the potential to defeat reigning President Joe Biden in the elections.
After Haley’s recent participation in the second presidential debate in Ohio, Trump ripped into her with accusations of lying. Haley had previously publically announced that she would never contest an election against Trump.
“MAGA, or I, will never go for Birdbrain Nikki Haley. No loyalty, plenty of lies!” he wrote. Recalling her praise for him, he further said, “I responded, ‘How nice of you to say, Nikki,’ knowing full well that her words mean nothing. She even came to Mar-a-Lago with her family, ‘bearing gifts.’ Anyway, Birdbrain doesn’t have the TALENT or TEMPERAMENT to do the job. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Similar to how she dealt with the birdcage situation, Haley had shared a screenshot of Trump’s post about her on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “Love this. It means we are in 2nd and moving up fast. Bring it!”
