Dharmatma Saran, chairman and founder of Miss/Mrs./Teen India Worldwide, was honored with the Community Service Award at the global convention of GOPIO (Global Organization of People of Indian Origin) last month in Fords, New Jersey.
Saran received the award from Sam Hinds, former President of Guyana and present Guyanese Ambassador to the United States. The award recognized his efforts was lauded for his community service for over fifty years and for bringing international Indian community on one platform through pageantry. With his wife, Neelam Saran, Saran travelled to 35 countries to start Indian pageants.
Saran has been recognized for his extensive work in several capacities. He has been chairman of public relations of the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), which has been responsible for organizing the largest India Day Parade outside of India for more than 20 years.
Additionally, he has been a founding member and chairman of the Cultural Council of GOPIO since its establishment in 1989 for more than 25 years. He also served as president and co-founder of what is now known as BJANA, the Bihar Association of North America.
Saran expressed his gratitude to GOPIO for presenting him with this esteemed honor in his acceptance speech. He said that by showcasing Indian culture, traditions, values, and the performing arts in his pageants, he has given pageantry a new dimension. He dedicated his award to his associates, as well as his state directors in the United States and national Directors worldwide.
