Global Indian diaspora advocates green living, circular economy in Chicago

In an effort to promote sustainable lifestyle practices to ensure a better future for the planet, the Global Indian Diaspora, in partnership with the National India Hub, hosted a lecture on "Green Living and Circular Economy” in Chicago.

The event inaugurated by Consul General of India in Chicago Somnath Ghosh, drew 100 participants from diverse sectors. Speaking at the event, Ghosh stressed on the importance of collaboration between businesses, community organizations, NGOs, and startups in advancing sustainable initiatives.

The CG also highlighted the consulate's role as a knowledge-sharing platform for environmental efforts. Deputy consul general T. D. Bhutia, in his opening remarks, underscored the Indian government’s commitment to green living and the circular economy as key elements of national policy.

Keynote speaker Navin Medishetty, national head of sustainability at the India Chamber of Commerce, discussed the economic and environmental benefits of the circular economy. He stressed that sustainable practices are not only compatible with profitability but essential for long-term success. Medishetty also called for stronger networks among individuals committed to social responsibility and ethical resource management.

The event concluded with a call to action for continued dialogue and collaboration. Organizers, including the Global Indian Diaspora and the National India Hub, have set a strong foundation for future initiatives aimed at fostering sustainability and environmental responsibility in the Chicago area and beyond.
