German technology conglomerate Freudenberg Group has inaugurated two advanced manufacturing facilities in Morinda, Punjab, marking its largest financial commitment in India to date.

The facilities, covering 40,700 square meters, are operated by Freudenberg-NOK India Pvt. Ltd. and Vibracoustic India.

Freudenberg invested over $44.34 million USD (€42 million) in the Morinda facility, consolidating operations from its existing plants in Basma and Mohali. The expansion is part of the company’s strategy to enhance production efficiency and support long-term growth in India, with a focus on the automotive and industrial sectors.

Speaking at the inauguration, Freudenberg Group CEO Mohsen Sohi highlighted the company’s commitment to India’s "Make in India" initiative, emphasizing the plant's role in improving customer service with increased efficiency and innovation. "This expansion not only aligns with our global growth strategy but also boosts our ability to serve customers with greater efficiency, innovation, and quality. As we celebrate 175 years of Freudenberg's legacy of excellence, we are proud to further strengthen our presence in India.," said Sohi.

The new plants are designed with sustainability in mind, featuring energy-efficient machinery, photovoltaic cells that supply 15 percent of the energy needs, and water-recharging stations. Freudenberg aims to reduce the environmental impact of its operations while meeting growing demand from both domestic and international markets.

Sivasailam G., managing director at Freudenberg Performance Materials India, noted that the expansion would create approximately 200 new jobs, growing the local workforce by 20 percent. The site will also serve as a global engineering hub, attracting top talent from nearby universities.

Freudenberg, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary, operates in 60 countries and generated nearly $12.66 billion USD (€12 billion) in sales last year. The company continues to expand its footprint in India, where it has held business ties for over 90 years and currently employs around 3,000 people.
