George Abraham urges Congress chief to form task force on EVM tampering

George Abraham, Vice-Chair of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), has made a formal request to Mallikarjun Kharge, President of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), to set up a task force to investigate tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). This call to action comes in the wake of recent elections and is particularly focused on states governed by the BJP.
"There is sufficient technical expertise available among Indians at home and abroad to make a detailed assessment of the case," stated Abraham. He emphasized the importance of moving "vigorously towards promoting transition towards paper ballots like in many European countries”.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has time and again described EVMs as “black box”. Other members of the Congress, too, have raised serious concerns about the transparency in the country’s electoral process.
Abraham further proposed an international conference of Congress loyalists, underlining the Indian Overseas Congress’ presence in 32 countries. He believes such a gathering would not only uplift the morale of supporters but also serve as a strategic platform to enhance the party’s global influence.
Additionally, the discussions between Kharge and Abraham touched upon the issue of launching Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC) chapters in developed countries like the US and UK, where IOC and Kerala chapters already exist. Abraham called for a directive from the AICC to resolve this matter, noting that OICC was originally established for Gulf countries where political activities by foreigners are restricted. He also suggested appointing permanent Focal Points in every Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) to maintain effective communication and strengthen relationships.
