Gadar 2 is raking in millions in box office collection after it released on August 11. The movie, a sequel to Gadar which released in 2001, registered US $57.3 million in earnings worldwide as of August 21, per media reports, and bolstered its position as the third highest-grossing Indian movie of the year after Pathaan and Rajnikant-starrer Jailer.
“The last I saw this kind of celebration happening was when ‘Gadar’ released and the people were enjoying and celebrating it. And after that, one is getting to see all this. I am just on top of the world and feeling so happy,” the film’s lead actor Sunny Deol told Variety.
As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Gadar 2 created history and set a new record after surpassing the weekend 2 collections of the top five highest-grossing Hindi movies. As per his post on X, formerly Twitter, Gadar 2 brought in US $10,852,425 in its second weekend in theatres.
The film surpassed the weekend 2 collections of Pathaan (7,597,018 approx.), Baahubali 2 (9,647,008 approx.), KGF2 (6,270,555 approx.), Dangal (8,803,843), and Sanju (7,477,237). Adarsh said the numbers were for the Hindi version only.
Aside from the original Gadar stars, Ameesha Patel and Deol, the movie also stars Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur. The film ended with a promise of a part 3, however, Shariq Patel, the chief business officer of Zee Studios -- the distributors of Gadar 2 -- said they will consider making the third installation of the film only if they find the right story.
