First Ram Temple inaugurated in Mexico city

Queretaro became home to Mexico’s first Ram temple

Mexico has inaugurated its first temple dedicated to Lord Ram. Built in the city of Queretaro, the consecration ceremony of the temple took place on January 21.

The idols consecrated in the newly built temple were brought in from India. An American priest presided over the consecration alongside Mexican hosts. Members of the Indian diaspora were present and sang hymns in celebration. Taking to X, the Indian embassy in Mexico shared glimpses of the ceremony.

“First Lord Ram temple in Mexico! On the eve of ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at Ayodhya, city of Queretaro in Mexico gets the first Lord Ram temple. Queretaro also hosts the first Lord Hanuman temple in Mexico,” the post on X read.

“The ceremony was performed by an American Priest with Mexican hosts & the idols brought from India. The atmosphere was filled with divine energy as the hymns & songs sung by the Indian diaspora reverberated throughout the hall,” read a follow-up post.



Indians in Mexico

As of October 2023, the Indian community in Mexico is approximately 8,000. About one-third of them reside in Mexico City, while the rest are spread out in Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cuernavaca, Queretaro, and Cancun.

The bulk of the Indian population in the North American country are IT professionals working for different companies. Others are executives of Indian and international companies, academicians, and businesspersons mostly dealing in pharmaceuticals and textiles.

Pran-Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya

Meanwhile, the pran-pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya took place on January 22. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present when the Ram idol was consecrated at the newly built Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

“After centuries of patience, uncountable sacrifices, renunciation and penance, our Shri Ram is here,” Modi said, addressing the gathering.

He spoke about experiencing divine energy radiating through the sanctum sanctorum during the ceremony. “Our Ram Lalla will not reside in the tent anymore. This divine temple will be his home now,” he added.
