FIA-NE celebrates International Women’s Day-2024

Women were encouraged to participate in the political arena during the event

The Foundation of Indian Americans – New England (FIA-NE) commemorated International Women’s Day earlier this week on the theme “Empowering Change: A Call to Political Action.” 

Jyoti Singh, FIA director lead a panel discussion by acknowledging the strides made by women in the political arena and encouraged increased female participation in the same.

The panelists included Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos, Mellisa Goho (Rhode Island Education Department Board Member), Yoshita Singh (Chief United Nations and New York correspondent for Press Trust of India – PTI), Maggie Lemay (Mrs. Continental World), Nemeira Lal (undergraduate student at Harvard University), Pratibha Goyal (entrepreneur, educator, founder and director of Lotus Learners Group of Schools), Saraswathi Muppanna (MD, Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Obesity Medicine specialist), and Diana DiZoglio (State Auditor, Massachusetts).

Calling for heightened female engagement in politics, Lieutenant Governor Matos, emphasized breaking barriers to foster an inclusive political landscape and recognized the transformative impact women can have in shaping policies and driving societal change.

Apart from political participation, the event also highlighted female health advocacy. The challenges and solutions surrounding women’s health rights and well-being were discussed including discrimination that women face in healthcare facilities.
