The Foundation of Indian Americans - New England (FIA-NE) hosted a grand Diwali celebration at East Providence High School, drawing over 1,000 attendees. The highlight of the event was a stellar performance by renowned singer Kailash Kher and his band, Kailasa. Kher's soulful music echoed through the venue, enhancing the festive atmosphere and captivating the audience.
The evening began with a tribute to the late philanthropist Ratan Tata. Mayor DaSilva presented citations to Kailash Kher for his musical contributions and FIA-NE for its community service efforts. Longtime volunteer Subhash Agarwal was also honored for 30 years of service.
FIA-NE also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing a new Indian Consulate in Boston, which will serve the New England region. Boston, in particular, hosts a significant number of Indian students, scientists, researchers, and academics.
In addition to the concert, the celebration featured a vibrant Diwali Mela, showcasing a variety of food stalls offering traditional Indian cuisine.
Energetic dance performances by Ekta Dance Academy further enlivened the atmosphere, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the colorful traditions of Diwali.
The event successfully combined entertainment and cultural showcase, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation for the spirit of Diwali and a sense of community connection.
