FIA Chicago hosts “Ae Mere Watan” event in honor of India

Over 550 guests including prominent Indian Americans attended the event

The Federation of Indian Associations, Chicago (FIA) recently held an event at The Matrix Club in Naperville, Illinois, titled "Ae Mere Watan," in honor of India's 77th Independence Day. The event began with the national anthems of both countries and a traditional lamp lighting, followed by an awards ceremony and musical extravaganza.

FIA founder president and chairman Sunil Shah, and current president Vinita Gulabani presented the welcome address. “Because of the unforeseen circumstances we had to celebrate Independence Day in September. But the fervor, love for motherland and tribute to martyrs is not limited to one day, month but it’s to be celebrated every day, Shah said.

Lamp Lighting ceremony with guests and FIA team

The event was attended by the Mayor of Oakbrook, Larry Herman, who delivered a speech and presented awards to FIA members during the team recognition ceremony. Scott Wehrli, Mayor of Naperville, and the FIA advisory board members Aishwarya Sharma, Ajieet Singh, Anil Loomba, Asha Oraskar, Bhupendra Beri,  Brij Sharma, and others were among the dignitaries present at the event.

Awards of Excellence were presented to Dr Asha Anil Oroskar with OROCHEM, American Dog Movie /Neil Khot, Rajeev Sharma, Dr Alamdar Badar, Jane Lee Remax, Venkat Talari, Eggholic Bhagyesh Patel and Lav Patel, Brij Sharma, Dr Bhupinder Beri, Sona Shah, Harry Mohan, Syed Hussaini, Ajeet Singh IABC, among others.

The first half of the show featured an India-centric program, during which Samaira Bongale and Sahiba Sidhu performed the American and Indian National Anthems, respectively.  Nipa Shah, a well-known Chicago singer, also performed Ae Mere Pyare Watan. Priyanka Parekh also choreographed a welcome dance by Team Laya. 

The event culminated with a tribute to the legendary bollywood poet and lyricist, Sahir Ludhianvi. Directed by Milind Oak, it was narrated by Nachiket Devasthali and supported by talented singers: Abhilasha Chellam, Rasika Ganoo and Dhawal Chandwadkar, along with their team of musicians.
