Goutami Eye Institute, a registered not-for-profit organization established in Rajahmundry – Andhra Pradesh, was recognized by the State's senior political leader recently for providing exceptional eye care services to patients.
The institute led by Indian American opthalmologist, Dr. V.K. Raju as president was lauded by State Bharatiya Janta PArty (BJP) president and Rajamahendravaram M.P. D.Purandeswari, who was visiting the new building under construction for Goutami Eye Hospital, located near Virinchi Vanaprastha Ashram.
The politician, while addressing the media, lauded Dr. Raju for rendering exceptional service to the poor and the needy of the Godavari region and urged the local community to support the hospital that is dedicated to eradicating childhood blindness. She also presented advanced medical equipment, including an advanced microscope for eye surgery, and modern tools for retina and cataract surgeries, which were donated to the Institute through a Rotary Foundation Global Grant from Rotary Greater Visakha and Rotary Club Morgan Town.
Being a native of the state, Dr. Raju emphasized the significance of eradicating child blindness as India's youth are its strength and that the country can achieve great things if its people are determined. The West Virginia-based ophthalmologist is also the founder and director of the Eye Foundation of America (EFA), which provides preventive eye care and treatment that is both affordable and accessible.
Rotary District Governor Dr.M.Venkateswara Rao mentioned that Goutami Eye Institute has been providing remarkable services in the field of ophthalmology for over 20 years, and as a token of appreciation, they donated advanced medical equipment worth about US$70, 000 (INR 60 lakhs).
The event was attended by managing director V.V.Kumar, chief medical officer, ,Dr.Y.srinivas reddy, Rotary Past District Governor and Goutami board member CH.Kishore Kumar, Rotary Grater Visakha President M.D.Yasin, and others.
